View Full Version : Dynamic range compression with Goldwave (dialogue way too quiet)...

I'm needing to adjust the dynamic levels of an encode I just did (even with the actual DVD audio, the dialogue is barely perceptible if the volume is set to a level where the background music and effects are bearable). I use Goldwave for pretty much all of my audio editing, and there's an option for adjusting dynamics, but I'm not sure if I'm using it correctly. Basically it gives me an x/y coordinate graph with ranges from -1 to 1. The default graph is a straight line with a slope of 1. I can adjust this to whatever shape I desire (I tried leveling the slope, but that just made everything quieter). Does anyone know what I need to do here? Or if there's another program I could use to adjust it? (keep in mind that I've only worked with GKnot for encoding and Goldwave for directly editing audio).
Thanks in advance,

play with the boosting graph of the latest BeSweetGUI (beta28).

I've been messing with BeSweetGUI and that boost thingy for the past 3 hours -- no luck. I read through guides and still can't get any output. I also tried simply following Doom9 AC3 to MP3 guide and setting the Dynamic Compression to "Heavy" (it needs it). But when I hit "AC3 to MP3", it doesn't seem to be doing anything, just says transcoding and then Time Elapsed: 0:03. Then nothing. No output or error messages or anything. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the reply,

*edit: I found what it was: if I try setting it to abr 192 kb/s in Lame (like it says you can do in the guide), I get nothing for output. But if I leave it alone and let it transcode at 128 kb/s, it's fine. Is there any way I can get 192 kb/s audio quality?

Nevermind, I messed around with some stuff and finally got it to work. Dunno why...

in order to work with that alt-preset abr, you need to download BeSweet v1.3b2.
