Encoding...Mpeg 2 to Divx 5

Subject title said it all!! How do you encode Mpeg to Divx 5?

I'm not sure but shouldn't you only have to open the avi file in virtual dub and follw the divx 5 procedures configure ect.

Use DVD2AVI to generate a project file (.d2v). You'll get the audio demuxed, too, probably MPEG1 Layer2 audio (MPA or MP2).

Then create an AVS file for AviSynth, e.g. using GordianKnot using the d2v file as input. The AVS can be opened in VirtualDub.

Alternative: Use VFAPI to generate a pseudo AVI file from the d2v source. The AVI can be opened in VirtualDub, too.

Right..well, that's not what I was thinking....
I was wondering, if I get a tv card and happen to know the program will capture mpeg2. I was thinking if it possible to convert mpeg2 to any Divx...

You could just rename the .mpg that was saved by your tv card to .vob and than you should just follow doom9s guides.
It works fine that way with my pinnacle bungee.

I was thinking if it possible to convert mpeg2 to any Divx...That's exactly what bb described. Convert mpeg2 to divx in virtualdub. Only to open mpeg2 in vdub, you need to framserve it.

flaskmpeg can also open mpeg2 files. Wouldn't be the best solution, but also a possible one (and even easier than making a DVD2AVI project and frameserving via avisynth).

Hmm...pinnacle..I think they uses mpeg 1 compression.

if its mpeg1 you can load it directly with vdub and save as divx.
btw: your threads name is mpeg-2 to divx

oh sorry i thought you have this card :rolleyes:
but well, besides the ways here and in doom9 guides you can also try vidomi as simple all in one solution.
