Hey guys,
This different player/media compatibility problem is driving me insane!:rolleyes: As we all know, the Pioneer media seems to be the MOST compatible with set top players. I now have 4 DVD players laying around the house and have to start deciding which one to keep. I have a HDTV, so progressive scan is a must. Here are my findings:
JVC XVSA70BK = Won't even recognize ANY cheap DVD-R media. Plays Pioneer media without a hitch. Plays DVD Audio, VCD, SVCD, & MP3. The progressive picture is excellent. (I've had this player for awhile, so it would have to "go back" via e-bay)
Pioneer 525 = Has trouble with "purple top" meritline DVD-R media. everything else plays fine. Also plays VCD & SVCD. No progressive scan. This is my old player I borrowed back from my parents.
Samsung P401 = This player plays everything. The catch is, it's progressive picture is not up to par. I've got 30 days on this one.
Toshiba 4700 = Plays all DVD-R media not burned w/nero. Plays DVD Audio, VCD, & MP3. Does not play SVCD:angry: Has an excellent progressive picture. 30 days on this one also.
Now, back to my question: Is there any cheaper media out there that will give the same results as the Pioneer media? I've read possibly Apple DVD-Rs, but those are still $5 a crack. I'd really like to keep my JVC if I could find cheap media that would be compatible.
Sorry for the long post, but I thought I could save someone the greif of testing all these players with different media. Thanks.
