Hi everyone,
It's been a week now and i still can't stop the sound from hissing when i convert it to mp2. I tried almost any softwares and settings: TMPGenc, BeSweet (toolame), etc...downmix dd5.1 ---» stereo, joint stereo or dual channel; 48 hz and 48 ---»44.1 hz; even at 320 kbps!!! etc...
On all movies...
When a listen to the WAV file produced by DVD2AVI, the sound is perfect and i even tried to convert that WAV to MP3 and again the sound was perfect!!! That's why i think the problem is the MP2 conversion!!!
It's not that it's a bad sound, it has good stereo effects, and when it's loud, we don't hear the hissing. But when there's a high-pitch sound or when it's calm, i clearly hear hissing in the background...
Obviously, i made something wrong or there's not a perfect Mp2 encoder out there!!!
HELPPPP!
Thanks

Either use toolame.exe or qdesign encoder. mp2enc seems not to be a good choice. (Yes, I know HeadAC3he also uses it, but I am not proud of it...)

I doesn't seem that anyone has a clue...am i the only one with that problem???
I have updated all the softwares, optimize my hardware configurations, etc...
Same results!!! harrrrrgh
My system:
PIII 1 Ghz
Asus TUSL2-C
Soundblaster pci 128
256 sdram pc-133
Western Caviar 40Gig 7200 ata/100

I don't think hardware has to do with that issue, but in case...

I CAN'T GET MP2 files to stop hissing in high-pitch sound/music and in the background. The WAV to MP3 is OK... but not good for SVCD's....DAMNNN

you're using v1.2b6.
please try again with v1.2 - the quality should be better.

I also had the same problem when I was making VCDs and SVCDs.
I used TMPG, Panasonic MPEG1 Encoder & QDesign, the sound is correct when it's not multiplexed. But when it gets multiplexed, it produces that hissing.

Ok, i made some tests and i think i am coming with something: i disabled the normalization and the boost settings(those who come by default) in BeSweet and the .mp2 file was good!!! Now, is there a way to tell DVD2SVCD program to disable those settings?
regards,
Kalenkoss
(by the way, i came back with BeSweet 1.2, but before i disabled those settings, the problem was still there)

@HockeyStick
first off - as we now can see, your logfile wasn't relevant  .

as for boosting,
if you're Normalizing the soundtrack (-g max), you should use low dynamic compression gains (/b=2), unlike when you don't normalize (/b=5).
if you don't like the effect of DRC - i'm pretty sure it is possible to disable it with DVD2SVCD.

moving the thread..

You can set BeSweet options on the dialog that pops up when you click on the small down arrow pushbutton to the right next to BeSweet 1.2x browse button on the Audio tab.
