as much as i like DVD2SVCD, i dont like the quality of subtitles very much. I didnt find the way to change the size, font or borders. For instance, s there a way to make yellow subtitles that are smaller that "default" wit thick black borders?

The subtitles that come off the DVD are not actually text - they are overlay graphics. As such, it isn't possible to adjust anything related to the type face (font face or font size). I suppose you could do OCR, but as OCR always requires proof reading, you couldn't automate it.

You can change the palette (color), though you won't be able to make the borders any thicker (if the original subtitles have any borders to begin with).

I agree, you could use subrip to RIP+OCR the subs. It has an excellent recognition ratio. The sub file then can be put onto the stream in any size, color, position, etc. using a VDub filter. You can further frameserver then the subtitled stream to tmpgenc (or any other encoder).

That's the way I make subtitled MPEG-1 videos for my iPAQ manually. Since user interaction is required for the OCR matrix, I do not expect D2S to do that.
