Problem found when Split DVD -> 2nd Disc Late Start

There's sometimes a problem with the second disc, if you splittet the DVD at a cell, that didn't contain a chapter point.

Pitty, this post got lost, cause of a database crash.

So I'll describe it once more again.

This problem with wrong chapter start apears on splitting a DVD, where you have selected a cell, that containes no chapter.
Then chapter 1 starts at cell 2 instead of cell 1.

To correct this prob, go into VTS_PGCITI of VTS_xx_0.IFO
Go onto the PGC containing you movie playback information.(Ususally the PGC with the most cells in it).

Scroll down to the Program map, and simply change the value of Program_1
from 2 to 1.

If you go now back to the VTS_Overview, you will notice that the first chapter will start at the beginning of the pgc.

Derrow, I have one question regarding the updating of the VTS_PGCITI. I did what you said and changed Program_1 to 1 (from 2). What about the other program entries? There are 14 under the PCG Program Map. Now Program_1 = 1 but Program_2 = 3. Is that okay?

The movie is Training Day, BTW.

Oh strange that your program_2 is 3!

In the case for the above post it looked like this:
Program_1 = 2
Program_2 = 2
Program_3 = 3

So changing the first Program, fixed the late-start problem.

In you case, just check out, if the chapters will be correct, when you jump to them. If not, then change the other Program-pointers too.

I sent an message to you regarding chapter points but didn't get a response. I saw this post and it seems to relate to my issue. Anyway, I too have use IFOEdit with Training Day to split to 2 DVD-R's. I used the method to correct the late start and it worked perfectly, seeing that the rest of that chaper was only a couple of seconds, I re-split it using the chapter before instead of using the layer switch that IFOEdit automagically picked. Anyway, I was wondering how to fix the chapter points when a movie is split to 2 DVD-R's?

In Training Day, there are 28 chapters, so when it is split, I get 14 chapters on each disc. Now, if I select chapter 15 on disc 2, IFOEdit freezes and then I have to back out, same thing with PowerDVD. If I select chapter 1 on disc 2, then I get chapter 15. Is there a way to change those reference points so that if I select chapter 15 on disc to, I actually get chapter 15 instead of having to use chapters 1-14 to select chapters 15-28?

On a side note, is it possible to create a screen that says Insert Disc X when the end of the chapters on Disc 1 is finished. It would be great to also put this in the chapter selection screen so that if I select a chapter that isn't on that disc that it will ask for the other disc to be put in.

Is any of this possible? I am aaiting an answer so that I can finalize these disc on a DVD-R instad of using an RW!!

I would say it's not impossible :-)

You might can change it manualy.
For that you have to check out, which Menu-PGC jumps to which chapter.
Then you just need to edit the Menu-PGC for example to load chapter 1 instead of chapter 15.

But don't ask me how this works now in detail, cause I didn't do such a thing by my self yet.
You will need to do some experiments by your self.

I have been trying and trying and following all the guides for getting IFOedit to split a DVD 9.....but no matter what I try....when I choose the split option in VOB extras, and select the two directories....once I click on "split it"...CRASH! I get the messege that the program caused a fatal error and needs to close!

Is there someone that can help me understand if I am doing something wrong or if this is a flaw in the program itself???

I am running Win XP and thought by chance that might be the issue, then saw a post that mentioned IFOedit will not split a VOB that is over 1 GB or something like that???

I too have this problem. I am using win98 se. I have tried splitting from several different points but have had no luck. The thing that REALLY pisses me off is that it does not crash until completely splitting the first disc (about 15 minutes--ARGH!!). Please help

I have managed to get the film to split to 2 dvd-rs and noticed 2 problems:-

1. Disk 2 menus are out, they dont allow navigation to the chapters on that disk(dont care about ones that arent on there, but are now on disk 1). The disk plays fine, just always starts from the beginning, regardless of what chapter you select.

2. Disk 2 loads up, and then goes to the menu and or mgm/trailer etc, it could do with skipping the menu and just carry on with the film.

Does anybody have any suggestions, as all guides i can find, explain disk 1, changing the number of chapters etc, fine, most say repeat the steps for disk 2, however there must be a difference?

I'm looking for help with this too!! Trying to back up ST:TNG. Problem is the 2nd disc. Menus are all there, but everything is geared up for disc 1, but I'm on disc 2. Example, if you try selecting episode 3 or 4 it does nothing. Go in and pick episode 1 or 2, it will start playing episode 3/4.

I know Darrow knows about this issue. He mentioned something about going in and modifing the HEX? I don't know where to start for that. My problem is I have 12 of these DVD's on my HD and need to burn them asap!

You don't need to edit any hex values by your self.
Backing up TNG is quit easy, you even don't need the split feature.
You simply delete 2 title-set's, that don't fit on DVD-R, und use IfoEdit's 'Get VTS Sectors'.
That's it.
But on each DVD-R, you will have to keep VTS_01_0.VOB. It containes the main menu (R2 version).

Do I have this right? Delete the .VOB files that contain the other 2 title-set's the don't fit? Is this what you mean "You simply delete 2 title-set's..." Done.

Copying Episode 3+4 to a new DVD-R.

Problem - Vob file 4, the last 4 vob ID's belong to the episode 3 and I have to copy that entire file which contains most the VOB ID's for Episode 2, which are not needed. This puts me over 4.7g. What can I do now?

Ok.. here is my question. When will DVD split work as advertised. If I have to go throug a bunch of work arounds, then the app does me no good, and I would like my money back. If we can get a version that does what it is supposed to do then that will be great.
