in case anyone is interested in the results from my latest upgrade. here they are:
the RT speeds are all encoding PAL (Movie = A Knights Tale).
Old M/C.
P4 1.7
Abit BL7 M/Board
1 Gb PC133
3 x 40 Gb Hdd
XP
R.T = 1.05
New M/C
P4 2.0 (Northwood)
Abit BD7 M/Board
512 Mb DDR 2100 (266)
3 x 40 Gb Hdd
XP
R.T = 1.48
No problems encounterd whatsoever.
I did over clock to 2.2 to do a quick test & got R.T = 1.6 but I only let it run for 10 mins as the temp alarm started.
alarm was set to activate at 65 deg c.
the reason for this was the company I purchased the chip from had stuck a bloody great "Void if removed" sticker on the top. it covered around 70% of the heat sink area.
when I contacted them re: removing it, they refused to support the warranty if I took it off.
so I have now slapped heat sink compound all over the sticker.
I'll give it a couple of weeks then take it off I think.
they obviously dont know what the shiney bit on top of the CPU is for.
