View Full Version : Can't get Xmpeg to parse ifo files

I downloaded the latest Xmpeg to see if it would work for me (ver 4.31 alpha). I'm running Windows 2000 SP2 on a dual PIII 700 system.
It wouldn't parse ifo files (I'm trying the Matrix as a test). On another thread it was suggested to install Xmpeg 4.3 first then 4.31 on top of it. I tried that and now while it reads the ifo, after I select the video and audio tracks, it does not proceed to the setup screen but rather just stays at the opening screen.
I've tried installing various versions now: 4.1c, 4.2a, 4.3 alpha and all of them are doing the same thing. They won't get past the ifo track selection dialogue into the setup screen.
Does anyone know how I can get this to work?
Thanks!

Xmpeg 4.31 alpha comes without the file needed to process IFO files. As stated on the official page (http://www.mp3guest.com/xmpeg_index.asp), you must download the DVD.mism.Xmpeg separately and install it on your Xmpeg folder.
You must also rename the *.lang.flask files in the LANG folder to *.lang.Xmpeg to be able to chose languages.

Unfortunately this didn't help. As I said, I also tried installing older versions, where the DVD.mism.xmpeg file is included and I get the same problem regardless of which version I use.
The program opens with the little window with the "Xmpeg" logo on it. I choose file/open media. Then I select the ifo file. I'm given a small window for choosing the DVD title and DVD Audio tracks. I then click on the green OK button. And instead of proceeding to the setup screen it just takes me back to the first little window with the Xmpeg logo. I can't get any further...

Here's some more info. If I select the ifo file it doesn't go anywhere. However, if I select one of the vob files it proceeds as it should. If I then, subsequently, go back and select the ifo file I get this error:
"This file is corrupted, don't contain video streams or your DVD drive is locked"

I was having the same problem. Do this. Uninstall xmpeg. then install the 4.31a xmpeg and then download the dvd.mism.xmpeg file(whatever its called) and put it in the directory for xmpeg. Now run Xmpeg and when u open media, it should now show *.IFO as an acceptable openable file. Open the ifo and ure set.
P.S why the hell would u wanna use Xmpeg anyway, Gordianknot method is so much easier and faster, and flexible. The only reason i im using xmpeg right now is because Rush Hour 2 is being a pain in the ass.

I did that and while I can now see the ifo files and select them, as well as get to the next step, select the video and audio tracks, it doesn't get any further than that. After that point what SHOULD happen is I see the video in the window with a control panel underneath from where I can make setting changes and start the encoding.
What DOES happen is nothing. I just go back to the same window you get when you open the Xmpeg initially.
I'd use gordian knot but I've never been able to get it to work for me at all. I can always get as far as setting everything up but when the batch stuff is supposed to start either nothing happens or I get various file errors so I've given up. So far I've been unable to find any decent program for encoding divx on my system that works. I had hoped that the new xmpeg might work but it doesn't seem to be any better.
Also, I'm curious why everyone seems to think the gordian knot method is easier and faster than xmpeg. With xmpeg audio and video are done at the same time whereas with gordian knot you've got to wait for the audio to be decoded from the vob files before you can proceed to start encoding video and mp3 audio. I might buy that in terms of actual processing time gordian knot is as fast or faster, but with xmpeg you should be able to set everything up then walk away, as opposed to gordian where you have to come back after 10 or 20 minutes when your audio is finished decoding before you can move on.
In any case, none of these programs seem to work on my system so I guess I'm sh*t out of luck. Maybe another clean install of Win2k? I really wish I didn't have to do that every 3 or 4 months...
