View Full Version : CPU - Quality Slider on Divx3 playback

Hey everyone...

I've noticed that when setting the "Quality (CPU)" slider all the way to the left (1), then movies look sharper when watching, but there are more macro blocks in fast moving scenes. When set at quality (4), the picture is a bit blurrier, but blockiness is reduced.

Can anyone confirm this blurring at the "higest quality" setting (or are my eyes tricking me?), and what do you recommend -- something in between?

Note - this is a playback question, not related to encoding.

Thanks...

That's exactly how it supposed to work. If you set your post-processing level higher you will get more blurry but less blocky picture. It's not something unusual. It's just the way it works. And set it to something what suits your needs best....

Thanks for answering. That's something that isn't covered in any FAQ that I know about... everyone I know thinks "higher is better" automatically for the 'quality' setting (so did I until today).

But to put things in perspective. Divx3 on it's highest post-processing setting is still sharper than Divx4 (or 5) on Post-processing level 3 or 4. Plus it is less blocky. Just started using the Xvid filter for Divx4 and the difference is night and fucking day. Divx4 finally looks as good as Divx3.
