Big quality and SPEED test - XviD vs DivX 5

So I made a codec comparison. Not only quality but also has lots of speed results. On top of that it is based on relativelly higher bitrates than most of the tests now present on the web. It is XViD vs DiVX 5 but I also threw in DiVX 3.11 Alpha for reference. Also I did a test (quality and speed) on the suggestion to use in dual pass XViD the avi from the first pass in order to speed things up.
I also did a test on a rumor that is going around that a MOD32 resolution compresses better and faster.

Just to correct you, the XviD DShow filter is no longer very CPU intensive at all (Ive heard its better than the DivX5 one now :) )

Well Koepi used CVS sources from 12.03.2002
I had that installed when I began the test and didn't want to change in the middle.
Even though the DS filter was cpu intensive it was awesome.
XViD is great. It's the thing that made me forget about nandub (and the endless time I was waiting for an encode to finish).

Just to demonstrate how much better it's gotten: I can enable all six post-processing options on my lowly PIII 500. You have a 1.2ghz computer, should be no problem :)

And in comparison to DivX 5: I can barely play a DivX 5 video on post-processing level 0. Yet I can enable all six in XviD. Simply amazing.

You might want to make a note of that in your comparison.

It is true. I just finished some small tests with the new filter. The direct show filter is now GREAT from all aspects. Up until now it was great only as far as quality is concerned. Now it is also very "light" as far as cpu workload is concerned.
I will make a note on the test tomorrow. Right now it is 2 am and I am going to get some sleep.

You heard correctly Nic;) CPU usage is actually about 2-4% lower than Divx4 & 5.
