ultimateboard closed!?

does anybody know why q-bert closed ultimateboard (www.ultimateboard.de)?
he had 10000 members and moderators like tron and tsunami... where are they now?

well.. are you sure he closed it? may just be technical difficulties. When I last upgraded my board all you got to see was a blank white page for about half an hour as I accidentally deleted the d-base config file and vb stopped working

It does appear he has closed it...My German is poor, but the site is well translated by world.altavista.com (which was a surprise!)

Oh my!! :eek: That's a surprise. I've never really done much there but it was the only forum I knew that came close to the level of this one. It's sad. He obviously did close it on purpose.

I'm still not sure what thee reason is, apart from some criticism he talks about in the message. Seems strange that he would just pull the plug out of nowhere. He also talks about illegal stuff being openly discussed - could there be something foul here? Like outside pressures?

Dieses Board hat in vielen Bereichen sehr große Pionierarbeit geleistet und ich war unwahrscheinlich stolz darauf, wie angesehen das Ultimate Board bei vielen war. Diese Zeit ist seit längerem vorbei und ich muss mir immer öfters anhören, dass in anderen Foren das Niveau und die Qualität der Beiträge viel höher ist und es im Ultimate Board gar keine Community gibt.

Viele sehen die Hauptschuld darin, dass hier auch nicht ganz legale Themen ohne Zensur besprochen werden durften und so die falschen Besucher angelockt worden sind - die nur alles haben wollen und nicht dazu bereit sind, eine Gegenleistung zu erbringen. Ich war immer der Meinung, dass professionelle Diskussionen zum Thema Videobearbeitung geführt werden können und Einsteiger nicht darauf achten müssen, ob sie die Wörter Rippen, kopieren etc. verwenden.

Aber das war wohl ein Griff ins Klo und da ich überhaupt keine Lust mehr habe, die abfallende Entwicklung weiter zu verfolgen (ich finde leider kein Gegenmittel), schließe ich einfach das Ultimate Board - bis auf Teile des Trade Bereichs (hat bestimmte Gründe). Es hätte mir sicherlich viel Spaß gemacht ein legales und professionelles Board aufzubauen, aber wozu?

Das DVDBOARD hält seit Beginn die Qualität auf einem hohen Level und für Profis gibt es ja das DVD-SVCD-Forum und deshalb würde noch ein Board, speziell von mir gegründet nichts bringen ;-)

Deshalb möchte ich alle, die wirkliches Interesse an der Videobearbeitung und dem Thema DVD haben und nichts illegales vorhaben in das DVDBOARD und das DVD-SVCD-Forum verweisen - vorher aber unbedingt die Boardregeln durchlesen.

Die ganzen Profi-Ripper, die alle Computer-Bild und Chip Beiträge zum Thema Rippen durchgelesen haben und sich wie die Axt im Walde aufführen müssen, kann ich nur dringend davon abraten andere Boards zu belästigen. Kauft euch lieber DaViDeo, MovieJack und wie das ganze andere kommerzielle Geraffel noch heißt und belästigt die Hotlines von denen!

Dann möchte ich mich noch bei allen Moderatoren entschuldigen, dass sie ohne Vorwarnung von heute auf morgen arbeitslos sind, aber einige dürften darüber sogar froh sein ;-). Des Weiteren möchte ich mich natürlich ganz speziell bei allen (ehemaligen) Moderatoren und allen hilfsbereiten Usern ganz herzlich bedanken, dass sie so viel Zeit, Energie und Wissen in dieses Board (ohne großen Dank) gesteckt haben.

So, that makes 2 major boards down... too bad.

I think we should take that as a warning not to be too tolerant when it comes to forum rules violations... keep the board clean and the discussion on topic. we'll discuss that further in private channels..

Me too, but with 6 years of german at school, my german is limited: 'ich liebe dich' (which is very usefull).

Anyway I don't like to see such forums and website down :( I can't imagine our communities without Doom9 and DivX-Digest

Great news (Q-bert wrote in reply to my mail that he'll make a second tyr, but I didn't want to spread that...):

Vielleicht verliere ich mit dieser Entscheidung an Glaubwürdigkeit (mal hüh, mal hott), aber die Leute bwz. Community die das Board zu dem gemacht haben was es einmal war und meinen Entschluß sehr bedauerten, haben diesen Schritt einfach verdient - außerdem verkrafte ich nicht noch mehr herzzerreisender Mails ;-)

In Zukfunt wird es aber nötige Änderungen geben, die leider nicht mehr vermeidbar sind. Zum einen wird es boardinterne Änderungen geben, einige Foren werden gelöscht und das wichtigste - der Umgangston muss sich ändern. Dieses Board lebt von der Diskussion und auch die Profis lernen aus Fragen und Anregungen von Newbies. Es gibt vielleicht in einigen Bereichen nicht mehr so viel neues zum Entdecken, aber Personen die nur auf das Abgreifen von Informationen aus sind tragen überhaupt nichts zum Thema bei.

Diese Personen gab es immer und wird es immer geben und sie werden in der Zukunft noch stark zunehmen und gegen diesen Trend im Internet sehe ich kein Gegenmittel. Diese Personen allerdings können mit ihrer Art das Klima ganz schön herunterziehen und das darf kein zweites Mal passieren. Da es kein mir bekanntes Gegenmittel gibt, kann ich nur jedem die stärkste mir Bekannte Waffe ans Herz legen - Ignorieren.

Von Moderatorenseite aus, wird es auch keine Flut mehr von verschobenen Postings mehr geben, da diese Maßnahme auch lernwillige Newbies verstimmt hat und ich hoffe von ganzem Herzen, dass der zweite Versuch an die alten Zeiten anknüpfen kann, denn es wird definitv keinen dritten Anlauf geben.

Ich war übrigens nie der Meinung, dass es hier keine Community mehr gibt. Nur die ganze Atmosphäre war verseucht und diese hat sich immer mehr ausgebreitet und viele die dieses Board zu dem gemacht haben was es einmal war, wollen sich in dieser Umgebung (Forderungen, Beleidigungen) nicht mehr aufhalten.

Wie immer könnte bzw. will ich noch viel mehr schreiben, aber mir geht langsam die Zeit aus, aber einen wichtigen Punkt habe ich ja noch ganz vergessen ;-) . Wann das Board wieder eröffnet wird, kann ich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt noch nicht sagen.

Boy - not speaking German kind of hurts :-). Based on the rather crude translation via babelfish, I have a vague idea of what Ultimate's issues were that shut it down. Can you folks add more detail to the story of the site's demise? With Flexion now Ultimate gone, I'm trying to understand what the underlying problems are. Are there external forces being applied to sites that publicly post about DVD backup techniques and software?

an extremely quick rundown:

flexion was shut down for money reasons (not enough people donated and the advertisement didn't help cover the cost of running the site)

ultimateboard was shut down because people didn't stick to the forum rules, insulted each other, and generally showed a "lazy newbie that has no interest of investing a single second to solve a problem on his/her own and thinks the community owes him/her a service" attitude.

that also should give you an idea about what we're discussion privately. The board will certainly stay free and so will the webpage (not like labdv which is members only now, even for their hosted apps) but donations are always welcome. And we'll be having a closer look at the forum rules (basically they stay the same but we won't tolerate as many violations as we had before).

I used to belong to a mailing list for conjuring that had an interesting membership policy. To join the list, you had to send an email to the membership administrator that would convince him that you were worthy of membership! That could include description of your experience or accomplishments, some interesting new idea, or any kind of evidence that you were not just a casual thrill seeker.

Maybe some kind of similar arrangement could ensure the appropriate degree of exclusivity here if the general quality of membership begins to decline precipitously.

I'm glad to hear the problems that closed the other sites are avoidable with some proactive forum management and creativity. This site is great and although I am certainly no expert I do my best to contrbute to the site.
