When I burn DVD-R with 1x speed using PrimoDVD and DVR-A03,
it is quite stable. But when I burn with 2x speed, more than
50% of burnings are failed.
(I'm using Windows XP and tried both of PIO mode and DMA mode)
I have several Apple DVD-R medias and I can not burn it
with 1x speed. Though I set 1x speed on PrimoDVD,
it still burn with 2x speed.
Is there any way to burn 1x speed with PrimoDVD on DVR-A03 for
the apple DVD-R media ?
Thanks,

Use NERO 5.5.7.8.
Working very well under XP.

I tried Nero 5.5.7.8 and it looks working fine.
But I've read some article at the VCDHELP.com and it says that
Nero does not burn 100% compatible DVDs.
Is this true ? Do someone know how compatible the Nero can burn ?
Thanks,

Nero may have fixed the DVD problems. This is taken from the Revision History of Nero:
Changes from Nero 5.5.7.2 to 5.5.7.8
* Features Added:
o added several new recorders.
o UDF 'Multisession' support has been added
o Added new write mode Disc-At-Once/96 (DAO/96)
* Bug Fixes
o Fix problems with TAB/F6 key in compilations and file browser to switch focus.
o Implement automatic refresh of the FileBrowser on file/directory changes.
o Single file now can be selected in file list of ISO compilation when pressing down or up arrow (mouse not required).
o No window was opened when playing back some AVI file
o The Cover Designer language was always set to English when running Nero for the first time
o Video-DVD fixes for standalone players. Video-DVDs created with Nero will now play on PlayStation2 and other previously unsupported devices
o The About Nero menu item was greyed out after the Window was once closed by pressing the "ENTER" key.
o CD-Text button for MixedMode enabled if the recorder is capable of DAO/96.
o Fixed bug in UDF generator which would cause crashes for certain directory sizes
o Shortcut for 'Find' (Ctrl+F) has been corrected
o The error handling message has been implemented in case that an error appear during erase procedure
o Nero could not play several tracks together using the "Play" button of an audio compilation
o Made Nero to react better on errors in case of CD Copy and Save Track
o Enable Oversize-burning for writing in DAO/96 mode
(One of these days Nero will release a fully functioning tool for the video experimentor).

I don't know why, but my dvd burner (Pioneer DVR-A03) never be good
at 2x speed recording. I tried several softwares and PCs, and always
only 1x speed recording works.
I can burn with 1x speed by Nero 5.5.7.8, but I can not burn with 2x
speed by PrimoDVD.

As far as DVD-R media for A03
These are the certified 2X media: Pioneer, Maxell, TKD, Mitsui, Taiyo Yuden. Other Taiwanese DVD-R... only record at 1x... (This is what the eng. at Pioneer told me).
To record at 2X with PrimoDVD...these are things must be done:
- USE 2x DVD-R media (as above)
- Update your PX engine (use by PrimoDVD)
www.prassieurope.com
Of course, if you want to burn DVD, watching you movie and editing the next movie... you can do that to.... but it cost you money...
In the lab, we have a system:
PIII-750, 128MB RAM, Win2K - SP2. Everything connects as FireWire devices with FireWire Internal Converter (FWINT100), except C: (for booting)
Here is what we can run simultaneous:
- Burning DVD with PrimoDVD
- Burning CD with Nero5.0
- Playing Movie with LiteOn DVD-ROM
- Reading data at 65MB/sec with RAID Level 0 - Using Win2K built-in feature
- Full formating floppy drive.
All tasks running smooth... No buffer under run kick-in.
and CPU's resoure only 29% loaded... We're all like DAMN...
If you want to know how to set these up let me know

I re-install PrimoDVD again. And applied px-engine update.
Then I put 1x at the speed setting box.
Now I can burn apple DVD-R on 1x speed.
Thanks, guys.

Forget one thing: Apple DVD-R media is 2X rated.
So you can record at 2X :)

The main problem is not the discs but the writer , pioneer keep it very quiet but it will only allow some dvd discs to write at 2x . there is mention on some site of trading standards dealing with complaints as the writer looks for certian types of discs and only allowing some to write at more than 1x.
