HP dvdi and Nero

Does anyone else seem to have the same problem with speed that I do? I've gotten all the way to actually burning the DVD with Nero 5.5.7.8 and when I select write it stays at 0% for hours. I waited 4 hours and nothing ever happened. The computer never stopped responding but stayed at 0% forever. Any ideas ANYONE???? Thanks

Sorry HP dvd 100i and BTW, does anyone else's drive show up as dvd 100j? I haven't had any problems so far, but it shows up as a j rather than an i. Hmmmm....

Cause it looks to me you've got a system malfunction.

I've tried VOB Instant and it just keeps saying that there's no disk in the drive "retry or cancel". I could click retry from now until I'm blue in the face. Cancel, cancels the whole thing (duh). I have also tried Record Now, but don't have Record Now max, so it didn't work. Any other ideas? Also, since i might have you here for a sec, after i follow the directions using IfoEdit (to create a dvd without menu)and create a new directory, is there a particular ORDER that the files need to be in to play? It plays fine in Power DVD with all the .VOB files and the Video_TS.ifo and the VTS.0.0.ifo. thanks!

Seems you have a kind of hardware problem.

It could be the media. What media have you tried to burn? Which manufacturer?

Does your DVD writer show a green lite after insterting the media, or is it flushing all the time.?

PS: to your second question.
The burning software should take care about the order of the files.
You don't have to adjust anything by yourself.

I've tried using both HP DVD+RW's and Verbatim DVD+RW's. Could it be Windows ME that's causing the problem? I've been putting off the install of Win2k (being lazy) but I have it. Could that be the problem? Oh, the drive shows a red light like I can't open it because it's working, then nothing it just sits at 0% forever. I've burned things to both disks successfully, just not a DVD that plays :)...I guess that doesn't make it successful. I was just writing that so that you knew that it does ACTUALLY write. Let me know what you think. I wish I could use VOB (I really don't like Nero), but my drive doesn't show up and when I use a generic driver is doesn't work either. This Stinks!

Come to think of it, the reason I couldn't use Smartripper was because it couldn't find a drive. Could it be because the drive registers as dvd 100J rather than I? I know other people have had drives that show up as j but it didn't cause any problems. Sorry for all the questions. :)

Maybe your DVD writer is running in PIO mode instead of DMA mode.
So the software won't be able to write fast enough DVD data to the writer.

You might try installing Win2K.
This would even be better if your dealing with DVDs, cause then you don't have a 4 gig filesize limitation when creating image files.

Without installing win2k (cuz that might be a pita) :) , how would I switch from PIA or whatever to DMA? Any ideas? Thanks so much for your help. I'd be so lost without you and your guides. I can't wait for the imaging guide. ;)

1: PowerDVD comes with a tool, called SystemDiagnostic.
With it you are able to switch to DMA mode.

2: In your systemproperties / control panel go to Systemproperties, and there you must go to the properties of your IDE controller.
There you also can switch the modes, and also you can specify at what speed it should run.

And by the way, check you IDE cable connection. Maybe there's something wrong. Maybe the cable is broken and might causing reflections in the elektronic information stream.

Just found another hint.

It might be a prob with the media.
Try to full erase the DVD+RW first.
