Deinterlacing Guides

can someone link to a definitive deinterlacing guide? i can search the posts, but everything seems out of context and it takes hours to put it all together. if someone can post a straightforward method or a link to one, i would greatly appreciate it.

Luke's Video Guide (http://www.geocities.com/lukesvideo/) provides a good overview of interlacing.

There's another site (or used to be) that had a rather good comparison of different deinterlace filters, but I can't remember it now and I can't find it. Anyone else?

thanks, the more you know :) very good info there. although as far as i can tell there is no perfect way to deinterlace divx, i just re-encoded my divx file as mpeg2 with tmpgenc, setting "interlace" as the encode mode, and viola, perfect video. if someone would have just told me that in the beginning i could have saved hours of trying methods that don't work. thanks for the link.
