Virtualdub & DivX5

Hi!

At first: my english is bad - sorry...

I try capture directly to DivX5 avi vith Vdub, but the result file is too big. With DivX 4.12 (default settings, bitrate = 750) 10 MB, with DivX5 (same settings) 20 MB. The codec not recognize my settings.

I don't know, this is a codec error or the Vdub can't use the new codec correctly?

I usualy capture to avi with the huffey codec, and after worth covert to DivX.

the way of capturing you've decribed is not quite good,
it's a good way for people with high-end computer equipment (Athlon 1.5GHz ,SCSI, DDR etc..)
There are 2 ways of effective and not-losing quality capturing
- capture with use of MJpeg codec and then convert it to divx
- capture directly to MPEG2 and then convert it to divx

First one id dedicated for most users, second one needs more power.

well, that depends on the purpose for the capture.

if u capture for archiving hi quality, i agree, however, some ppl (i.e. me :) ) use the pc as a vcr. if i capture only to view once or twice, it doesn't make sense to capture, and then wait for re-encoding. it's too much of a hussle and not much of a gain.

using relatively hi quality one pass (i.e. divx/xvid quality=~85-90%) gives excellent results for this purpose. and it should work well for 700-800Mhz pc at res up to 352x288.

i use duron 800, capture using vdub using xvid (b4 that i used divx4.11) @352x288 + mp2 @80Kbps audio, and get fine results.

Yes, i know this methods, but the life is too short: this methots need more time like the Direct-DivX-Capture.
I don't know why not workink te good, old method with the new codec...
