Hmm, the last encoding app that I know of that does it off the DVD would be FlaskMPEG DeCSS. (quite old.) Then you'd need an mjpeg codec installed. Why you would want to do it is beyond me.

well, i am getting a new hd of 100g :D
plenty of space then.....

ripping a dvd like vob is a quite slow process
not really faster than converting in an uncompressed(almost)format w/o any filter,
then you will have on hd a big but very manageable avi,or many avis,
to do in parts,cut,paste,reverse,jump,warp ecc...
w/o use vfapi.

and how are the things now with the avis size limit?
