Does anyone know why Divx`s encoded with Windows media audio v2 have problems with sound quality? Its like everyones voice is half an octive lower than they should be, its especially noticable when women talk.

Delving deeper into BSplayer I discovered that looking at the sblive directsound tab that the "fullness" quality percentage drops to around 40% whilst the divx are playing. When I pause the divx it returns to 100%. When I hit play again the sound is fine for half a second then it drops back down to around 40% and the sound is back half a octave lower.

Is this a bug with WMA or divx? I`m running a Athlon xp1800+,KT266A, 512mb system so surely it should be able to decode a WMA stream at the same time as it does a divx stream?

It happens with every divx rip i`ve downloaded using WMA v2 and the version of windows media audio i`m running makes no difference at all.

What br are u using? if 64kbbs for video, then it's no wonder the sound sucks. 64kbbs is simply not enough, maybe for .ogg but certainly not for WMA or MP3.
If ure using higher br then forgot this...

Yes WMA below at and above 128kbps is about useless. 128Kbps MP3 especially Lame will beat 128Kbps WMA3 which is newer than the hacked WMA of which you speek. I think if you asked around you would get the consensus that WMA should not be used. It is not some sort of official "Divx" codec as many people seem to represent it as. They were working on it towards that end. But as the Distro implied it was alpha and not meant for general use. They had just gotten it to the point you could sometimes get it to work in AVI. But they had not addressed many problems including the way WMA butchers audio. The hacked codec was abandoned before it was even released. In fact it was released because it was abandoned.

If my understanding of the past several years is flawed please point it out. I am sure that I have represented the situation to the best of my knowledge. I knew the hacked ACM had no future the moment it appeared when I upgraded my install to 3.11. Oddly enough it did not make an appearence in the 3.2 Divx pack. Coincidence or not..... you decide.
