New software AVI-player: "Light Alloy"

I've developed a video player and would like to know
if It can be useful for somebody.
Please, comment its work, I really need it.

Some comments:

Why DirectX v8? The only thing that "requires" DirectX v8 in a player is DVD playback... everything else can work on DirectX v5 as long as you support the proper interfaces.

I'm wondering what you mean by screenshot capability. I've noticed that if the ISampleGrabber filter resides within the filtergraph that it breaks overlay support, which is kind of bad for performance.

What exactly are you referring to by "Unique ability of playing video on systems with non-"brand name" sound chips"?
Doesn't media player work with every sound chip that has a windows driver?

And I'm wondering if you think people would buy such a player for $25 considering players like Powerdivx, BSPlayer and Zoom Player are basically free.

1. DirectX8 introduced some new interfaces like FrameStep and etc.
2. I don't use SampleGrabber becasue I tried to write a really
fast player.
3. Some people have cheap sound cards, usually motherboard built-in. They can't play movies. MediaPlayer caused Access Violation in this case. I know REAL 3 persons who has this problem. Good for you if you have never heard of this.
4. I don't insist on payment. There are no restriction of using
player for free - only NAG-screen.

Also, Mcaffee detected the uninstall as being infected with an unknown virus. Any idea as to why?

How do you grab images without ISampleGrabber? You wrote your own renderer? You obviously can't do a standard screen-cap as the overlay pretty much blocks it.

As for DX8. The idea is, if some feature doesn't work, you bypass it, use seeking to frame advance instead and as such you can keep backward compatibility upto NT4 with DX5.

uninstall.exe contains code for deletion file and registry
sections. McAfee decides that it may be a virus activity.
Have no idea how to prevent it. :-(

Blight: I don't use ISampleGrabber in play mode.
Just when I need to screen-shot, I insert it.
Then playback comes short way.

DX8: Yes, I've lost compatibilty with NT 4.0.
But I think people should use new technology but not
skipping them.

the FrameStep interface doesn't work very well so...

I don't really understand this one... How can fix it ? With many millions of user of Zoomplayer and PowerDivX, we have never heard this ? Maybe you are just changing the output device, lot of players can do that...

Well, this is your choice, but like Blight told, having Radlight, Zoomplayer, Bsplayer and PowerDivX free and very superior makes things really hard. Simply think to Winamp...

BlackSun: Yes, FrameStep is out of sync on slow machines, but that is
not reason to stop using it :-)

As for "unique ability", when I write a player I havn't Sasami or
another powerful player to try it. And consequently I thought I am alone
who can solve this problem. Now I must remove this line from
program description. Sorry for this. Inspite of this my player is
only that fixes it without set any options.

Shareware: Yes, it's hard. Maybe I'll stop this crazyness and make it free...

To Blacksun: I am still waiting and hoping a lot from that next powerdivx player, but until that I cant use it all the time. Too much confusing options hiding behind that and that and that option..

It also crashes from time to time in my XP and geforce 2 700Mhz. Dont know why..didn't do that on my Win ME.


Hmm..actually I have tried almost every player there exist and I can say that this is not bad..not bad at all. ¨

I usually use 'RadLight-player' cuase it has everything I need..(skipping movie with mouse-wheel, easy pan-scan options with numpad, VERY good subtitle support etc..) It's also doesn't take so much resources like others.

The only bad thing about 'RadLight' has been that no option for screen captures and that why I have left BSplayer on my HD. Now I can remove it also.
Other good thing is that now I can put this player as a default player when opening avi-file, because RADLIGHT PLAYER CANT DO THAT!!

Really annoying..always have to first start the player and then open a movie through that.

Hmm..also that snag-screen is kind of annoying..but I can live with that and even register this sometimes. That cross-button is somehow weird..I dont like that the player automatically resizes my films when I wanna check what resolution they are.

The other great option would be to show avi-resolution on front panel like it has been in BSpley from the beginning..and option to show frames also instead of time is good, cause it helps to synchronize your subtitles with other softwares..
