View Full Version : Question deleting files in "movie" folder.

I admit, I'm a newbie. I've read a lot of posts in the past several days and am working through bit rate errors at the moment. (I just loaded the CCE patch for bit rate errors and will test again tonight.)
My question/problem... to conserve hard disk space after a crash, I go into explorer and go to the Movie folder. I select all files in the folder and then delete. All files go to the Recycled bin. Then I go to the recycle bin and select delete all files. All files appear to be deleted but when I immediately return to the recycle bin to check and be sure, there is a file that has "returned".
The file is INFO2. I try to delete this file but it returns again with a DcXXX file where XXX is a three digit number. When I try to delete these files, the INFO file returns with even another DcXXX file.
Is this related to DVD2SVCD?
In the movie folder, file VTS_01_0.IFO reports as a read only file and I wonder if this file is related to my problem.
Sorry everyone, this must be the dumbest question/problem ever as I find no posts anywhere related to this. Will DVD2SVCD take care of eliminating the movie specific files when I start the process again?
I thought this might be a virus problem. McAfee's latest upgrade reports no problems after scanning all files.
Thanks.. I hope to have success soon.

This isn't a DVD2SVCD issue but rather a windows issue.
See this link (http://support.microsoft.com/directory/article.asp?ID=KB;EN-US;Q226978&) for information.
Yes, DVD2SVCD will reuse the same file names without any problems so you don't have to erase them every time. Just a note though, if you normally do encodes to 2 CDs and have one that takes 3 CDs and don't erase the files, the extra files for the 3rd CD will not get erased and will waste about 1.5 GB of space.
Mark
PS. I found the link by doing a simple web search for info2.

Thank you MARKS430,
I'll read up on this tonight.
I incorrectly reasoned that this was due to DVD2SVCD or CCE since I never noticed the problem until now.
Thanks for the tip on erasing a third file.
I'll probably be posting soon CCE locking during the mpv encoding. I used to get bit rate errors and applied the patch, now it simply locks. I will read other posts first.

I know you said you will read up, but just for your info CCE locking up is a very common problem. No 100% fix has ever been found. Some machines and/or movies just refuse to work with CCE. This is one of the reasons TMPG support was added. If you continue to have the locking issue try these things:
1. try to stabalize your computer more. If you Overclock reduce the speed. Maybe try upping Ram voltage a little or maybe even CPU voltage. CCE is extememly finicky and sometimes just refuses to work when every other program works fine.
2. Using CCE 2.5 check safe mode
3. Download CCE 2.62 (very important it's not 2.64) and check safe mode.
4. If all else failes use TMPG.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Markrb,
I'm going to do some reading right after posting this..
Just in case this may help..
1) I do not overclock. My machine is an HP, PIII, 1G, Intel, 512ram, (currently testing with 256ram), WinME, 60G HD.
2) I will test using safe mode soon.
3) I will also try 2.62 soon.
4) I have TMPG and may start using it.
What I plan to search tonight is concerning this... Still using CCE 2.50, I changed VBR to CBR (2000) and had no problems locking up on the first test. The resulting files look pretty good to me. I want to research the implications of different CBR settings. It appears the CBR setting affects file size.
