View Full Version : Idea for B-frame support....

I realize that right now the biggest obstacle for XVID getting b-frame support is 1) a lack of application support to send the frames to the encoder out of order, and 2)a lack of compatible file container support. It seems to me that problem #1 might be resolvable by somehow having avisynth reorder the frames before they would even make thier way to virtual dub.....would this be possible?

Since the implementation of b-frames is basically ready, those problems are solved already.

But thanks for your suggestions :)

Very exiting! Have you given any thought to the idea of variable b-frames?

_basic_ isn't variable ;)

let isibaar, gruel and suxen_drol get those things working in first place, after that there is a codebase with that you can work...

:)

I meant exciting, sorry for my bad english.

I do not feel it is something wrong with DXN trying to make money on their product. Still I am very excited (correct?) about Xvid becoming better than DivX. In some respects it allready is (motion estimation), but b-frames will take it one step further i think.

Very exciting indeed. B-frames is the only thing for which I have use for DivX 5. To me it seems to slow(playback) and blurs the image too much. B-frames gave it an advantage to me because the image had more of an MPEG-2 look(finer detail with less macro blocks visible) at a much lower bitrate. The other options in DivX 5 just create bigger problems than they fix.
