I've been doing some testing with the DivX 5.0 Pro codec using XMpeg 4.3 and i happened to stumble on something quite nice.
I was getting very frustrated with the deinterlacing not working in XMpeg (seems to have not been implemented yet, because no matter what configurations i tried, i never saw anything even resembling deinterlacing in the output, just those lines we all love to hate), so i decided to try the deinterlacing and resizing options inside the codec. To my surprise i turned out to be remarkably fast (although i'm not sure it's the best quality, i didn't see much of a difference if i skipped the deinterlacing in the codec and only use resizing).
I was doing these tests with the X-Files Season 1 DVD (the Pilot episode) which is Region 1 NTSC 29,97 fps with AR 1.333 (640X480).
Since XMpeg (or maybe the DVD) uses a default resolution of 720x480 i had to resize to 640x480 and was used to doing this in XMpeg instead of the codec, but when i started using the codec i got aabout a 3.0 FPS boost which is huge in my case because i have a crappy Celeron II (Coppermince core) at 705mhz and i was getting only 4 FPS :angry: when using no codec resizing or deinterlacing but doing it in the codec now is giving me 7 FPS.
Dunno if anyone else has tested this but just wanted to let you know.
I know i'm lasy in using XMpeg (with it's audio decoding) instead of the other solutions but in my mind it seems to be the best method because every single time i use something else than XMpeg i get massive desyncs so that's that.
I might do some quality comparisons later but i want to see how a full episode comes out first.
