View Full Version : Higher Max Bitrate = Smaller file?

Hi,
I've been reencoding the same .vob file multiple times to try and find out the max bitrate my standalone will play. I encoded the one file with a Max of 2500 and then again with a Max of 2600. The second file with a Max of 2600 was 2 megs smaller than the first, all the other settings were the same. Does this make sense to anyone? I used the same .vaf file for both encodes, should I make a new one each time I change bitrate?

Thanks,

Whenever you change anything re-encode the vaf file.
The Vaf file is important and it is specific to each encode.
Even when I change nothing and do crash recovery I always redo the Vaf file as well. I may not have to, but it's worth the peace of mind knowing it's being done right.

Thanks for clearing that up, I had assumed I should start redoing the vaf file each time.
