Capture of HDTV

Hi,

Digital TV broadcasting had been started in Japan in the form of HDTV. Resolution is up to 1080i. At the moment, the only way to record it is by D-VHS. Some of D-VHS has i-link which enable DV in but not out. Output from this i-link is to another D-VHS. As a result, I suspect the video signal out by this i-link could not be catpured by existing capture cards or devices. Am I wrong in my understanding?

In fact, I want to capture the video of HDTV and to make DVD (with as highest quality as possible). Do you have any idea how I can achieve this goal?

DVD standard DON'T support HDTV resolution

One of the things in the current standard is MP@ML - Main Program @ Main Level.

HDTV is High Level.

There are actually a few HDTV capture cards on the market now. WinTV has one. You can receive and capture OTA (Over the Air) HDTV in 1080i. But to put it on DVD you going to have to down mix it to 720x480. The quality will be very good (but not HD) since your source will be high HD quality.
