I have a simple question about subtitles:

I cannot view the SVCD subtitles, because my DVD player won't recognise them...

I want to know if anybody ever succeded with DVD2SVCD to make a SVCD-subtitled movie, and could watch it on his standalone AND the most important thing: how do they look like? I mean, is it as blurry as the PERMANENT subtitles? Or is it sharp like the original DVD subtitles?!

Thanx alot!

PS. Isn't there a utility out there that can analyze my encoded MPEG file so I can see if the SVCD subtitles are muxed correctly, etc?!

Check your DVD players ability to play or another type of subtitles in the NEWBIE FAQ at the bottom. Mine plays CVD not SVCD subs and they look great.

No. You cannot preview the muxed mpeg/subs file in a software player like WinDVD.

This is not what I asked.

I know WinDVD and PowerDVD don't support SVCD subtitles. My question is: Do SVCD subtitles look good on standalones (I know mine can't play them - but it's just for the future DVD players that I'll buy) and isn't there an utility that ANALYZES the MPEG file (I mean that can give me info about the file - what kind of streams, etc)...

But thanx for the answer anyway, maybe I was a little bit unclear...

hi,

the tool that you are looking for is bbdmux. You can find it at doom9's download homepage.

Another option is vcdeasy. It has a built in mpeg analizer and, if you use it to create the svcd image, you can see in the log how many subtitles has the mpeg stream.

your third option is to demux the subtitles from the final bbmpeg*.mpg file. So, you can get a lot of informations, about what was muxed and how was muxed, from the final file. To demux svcd subtitles, use vob2sub.exe - it is into submux.zip file, at dvd2svcd homepage - and sygwin1.dll - which comes with vcdimager package.
