Hello everybody!

Got a strange Problem here. I have an NTSC Region free DVD (A better Tomorrow II). Everytime i follow the gordian knot guide from dooms site for divx 5 i myself dont understand the following:

When i ripped the movie and loaded it into dvd2avi to analyse the video structure it tells me video-type is ntsc over 95% and the frame type is interlaced. But now i dont know what to switch on in dvd2avi. I mean, according to dooms guide i shouldn´t check anything in dvd2avi but doing a ivtc at a later stage in gordian knot. But this is only for the fact that the movie is ntsc or ntsc over 95 % (dont know exactly). But what about the interlaced? According to dooms guide fast interlacing should only be checked when i use pal sources.

So maybe there is someone out there who can help me with this dvd.

thx in advance,

chucky

I don't know the DVD you speak of, but I'll try and give you some guidance.

First, any leaders (production company, distribution company) may be different then the main content. I always start my preview in the middle of the content, to avoid confusion. You do this by moving the slider and then clicking on the [ button, prior to pressing F5.

If the main content shows as FILM, then the content has been Telecined. That means frames have been added to convert from 24 fps to 29.97 fps to make it easy for NTSC DVD players to send the signals to an NTSC TV. The easiest way to Inverse Telecine (IVTC) is to use the Force FILM setting in dvd2avi. Your d2v project will convert to 23.976 fps. If the content isn't FILM, I make sure Force FILM is turned off.

De-interlacing is needed when the main content has been interlaced. That's done during video encoding. GKnot offers two versions, fast and smart. I've found, that, for content shot with a video camera, fast has worked fine for me.

Interlacing and Telecining are two very different things, that many people seem to merge together in their minds.

I hope this helped.
