View Full Version : Bitrate and final filesize w/ Gknot

I have a 55:57 minute DVD clip which I want to convert with DivX5 using Gknot and VirDub. After realizing how high my bitrate can go with this, I decided to encode the audio at VBR 192 kbit/s. Using the resolution 672x288 and 700 MB as the limit, my bits/(pixel*frame) goes as high as .335. In turn the bitrate suggested by Gknot is 1554. I used this value while following the Divx5.x guide but ended up with a ~500 mb movie. I read that if the value is over .35, then there is a chance of the movie not reaching the desired filesize. Now I know that if I want a 2CD rip, then the bits/(pixel*frame) should be .270, so should I just decrease the mb limit to 580 so the value will drop to .270? I don't really want to do this since I want to use up the whole 700 mb... If Gknot isn't going to be helpful in giving me a better bitrate, should I just blindly guess at higher numbers above 1554?
