TMpeg reads vob-files

Hi everybody,

for some strange reason my TMpeg (all versions) can directly read and encode ripped vob-files (great, isn't it? :D ). So there is no need to use DVD2AVI or Flask.
I won't complain about this at all - I just want to know how it comes.
Can it be that some Cyberlink dll-file (Power DVD) is responsible for that?
Does anybody know? Could be helpful for other users...

powerdvd registers their filters with windows, windvd normally doesn't. So.. tmpg will use the directshow reader and can read vobs. However, there's a catch.. you actually get the powerdvd output.. not the unfiltered mpeg2 data. So.. the video will be bobbed (DVD video is usually displayed at twice the fps when you watch it on the pc).. so I don't know if you get the right framerate.. but you definitely get unwanted results.. this method is not really stable and especially for ntsc titles tmpg has no way of going back to 23.976fps as there's no (or almost no.. the more screwed up a title is the less successful the progressive-ize methods that software dvd players use are) flickering.

the point of all this is: you can do it but you better not.

Be carefull:

Sometimes TMPGEnc does not handle DirectShow filters as we expect.

If a Vob File has several VobCell IDs, TMPGEnc will not read the complete number of frames contained in the Vob file.

OK, I understand that.

Can you nevertheless name the DirectShow filters which are responsible for displaying vobs and mpeg2's?

(I just reinstalled my system and now I don't know which filters from my various filter packs to install :mad: )

You may have answered my question before I asked for help - I have two different computers with WinXP Pro installed. One Laptop with a P3 900 Mhz, the other a desktop with a PII 450Mhz. Since the desktop is so slow, I decided to try TMPGEnc on the laptop. The processing was much quicker, however the filesize was only about 3/4ths of the whole VOB. I checked all settings against my desktop, same version and settings (v2.53 recording using Rui Del Negro's excellent instructions). When I add the VOB from the add line, the reported filesize is only about 3/4 the actual size. The VOBs were combined into one large file. The desktop does the whole file fine, it is only on the laptop this happens. I have deinstalled/reinstalled to no avail. Any suggestions? Thanks.
