Did you perhaps install DivX 4 after the encodes? Cause it overwrites in some ways.

I did not reinstall the divx 4 codec at all.
but when installing the divx 5 codec for the first time it installed itself over the divx 4 codec.

O, i almost forgot the only encoder witch do not give me these unplayable avi's is virtualDub. I normaly encode with mpeg2avi and he is giving me this problem and dvdx give me this problem to. on the other hand a friend of mine is also using mpeg2avi and he does not have this problem. isn't that wierd? So please folks help me out here.

I have the same problem if I use ivtc or any of the internal processings in the codec menu.
If you choose only progressive or interlaced frames it should work.
try it out and tell me how it goes.
Best Regards
