Well,
it's great that this feature is now available in the new BeSweetGUI 0.6b22, but is it possible to enter something like

--alt-preset 128

instead of insane, standard,...??

thx in advance

I Can Add Numbers to the ComboBox. What Numbers Will Make You Happy?

jap, thanks so far :),
I can add numbers, but I still have to choose CBR, ABR or VBR on the "Lame 2" page.

I finally got e.g: --abr 128 --alt-preset 128, but I don't need --abr 128, do I?

thx again ;)

currently, - LAME's ABR & CBR --alt-presets aren't supported (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15738)

Which is a real pity, IMHO. For the purpose of DVD ripping, ABR is much more useful than VBR since most people will be encoding at ~128kbps, those who want ~192kbps can often find a 192kbps AC3.

For ABR, using any lines other than --alt-preset [bitrate] is basically compromising quality. I'm afraid that by encouraging people to use easy-to-use transcoding tools which do not offer the ABR --alt-presets, you are encouraging them to use inferior mp3 encoding methods. Sure, you can argue about the benefits of using 24bit or FP PCM stream in the encoding, but the quality difference between that and using 16bit PCM is negligible compared to the quality loss in not using the --alt-preset ABR.

I really hope a good solution appears soon before more people goes down the wrong path.

again, this is a known issue, just like vob-input support for BeSweet, or WaveBooster for 5.1ogg.
i will take care on all those issues.

EDIT :
abr & cbr alt-presets are supported in BeSweet v1.3b1 (http://besweet.notrace.dk).

Well done, it's about time. Now I'm happy, although I won't be using it. At least more people out there should be getting better quality ABR encodes now. Isn't life great? :)

BTW, if I use BeSweet to transcode AC3 to Ogg with normalizing, will it use an intermediary file or 2-pass AC3 decoding?

no intermediate file. 2 pass ac3 decoding.
as you probably know, there ain't anykind of global_gain field in ogg.
