Divx 3/4 to SVCD vs. SVCD to Divx 3/4

I have more or less a general question regarding conversion quality. I want to make BOTH a SVCD and a DIVX 3/4 backup of movies from eachother. Meaning I want to do a SVCD rip OR A DIVX rip and convert it to the other format. I hope that makes sense. In other words, I plan to just make one dvd rip (SVCD or Divx).

My question is this: Is it better to make a SVCD and convert it to Divx or is it better to start off with the Divx and convert to SVCD. What I'm looking for is overall best quality. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

For conversion, I just plan to use the DVD2SCVD and the Gordian Knight for Divx.

If you're concerned about quality you better should use the original material to do both, the divx and the SVCD.
Is there a reason why you can't or don't want to do this?
