Dvd Rom Pausing Durin Ripp??

I formatted last week an reinstalled most all my s/w an tryed to do a ripp last nite with dvd2svcd and my dvd drive seemed to run abit an pause while then i noticed the hd light working an pausing. So it seems like it was reading dvd then writing to hd. I checked with smart ripper an sure enuff what used to be a 6._ _ kbs was now running @ 1.5kbs. so anyways im gonna reformat but if this does not fix the problem i wanted to get this on board so i might have a clue when i hit that point an time. Thank you as always for any info.

well i formatted an so you know its a 1.3 amd, windows 98 se, 512 ram, voodoo3500, sys. An this didnt help. Its still rippin an pausin, so now im gonna try anoither version of smart ripper, was usin 214.
have no clue tho as to why be for the format it was fine an now its all f00ked up.Talk to ya lata

is this happening with all titles you try to rip?

i had same problem and i tryed everything, only diff is i had win2k
after a few days i noticed the speed dropping again getting lower and lower but yet it still played dvds fine... but the drive itself was dying after a week it would not even play a movie and it would crash any ripping software i tryed :( i don't know if this would be your problem too...

After a bit more checkin an talkin with friends it was discovered that DMA was NOT checked on the HD or the DVDROM, once checked an rebooted all was normal again. thank you all for your continued support.
