View Full Version : ReMpeg and the bad quality with NTSC even with a 90 % rate

Hi!
I am having disturbing blockiness in the resulted clip when I have used ReMPEG for NTSC-VOBs, even though the ReMPEG rate would have been the max of 90 %. It is strange, since the problem is non-existent with PAL-titles.
Is there some wrong option that I have selected (I am using the ones on Doom's guide) - the reason I am asking this is that ReMPEG lets me choose 720 x 576 (even though it should be 720x480 in NTSC) despite the fact that I am inputting a NTSC-VOB's created by IfoEdit and I am getting to be suspicious of this. I am using ReMPEG 1.5.2.
Thank You for any helpful information!

I think the blockiness is specific to certain movies or studios that encode in some ways.... I have had problems bringing "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back" down to 85% with that blockiness that you describe.... but I had no problem bring "A.I." down to 74% infact the quality looked suprisingly good. The only problem was the long wait almost 40hours with the search technique set to full and the performance set to reference.
I hope whoever wrote that re-mpeg software comes up with a fix for that blockiness bug seen on certain titles

I've noticed the block problem any time I've rempeg'd at 90%, if I lower it to 86 or 87 it seems fine. I was able to get Jay and Bob to work:
1 DVDDecrypter 3.0 to rip
2 IFOEdit 90 to strip
3 Rempeg 1.5.2? (I think, sorry)
4 IFOEdit again
5 Burn (Prassi)
I don't know if you have to, but I always run IFOEdit twice on these - you'll usually lose about 1gb the first time so you can Rempeg at a higher %. Then you have to run it again after Rempeg to put everything back together again.
Jay and Bob was blocky at 90%, fine at 86%
Hope this helps.

I'm having problems with Jay and Silent Bob too.. I tried to find ReMpeg on Doom9 but didn't see it on the Download page. Any suggestions as to where I can find it?
Thanks!

Same here. I just cannot get this damn movie to work. I tried stripping the first ID like mentioned in another thread, but still was not happy with the remuxed quality. It takes me about 30 hours to do a complete rempeg. Someone please post whether or not it works for you at 87% and save me ANOTHER days worth of remuxing

Do a search here, it has been discussed and a remedy found. You have to use Vobedit to demux the first vob and find the cell id's that are causing this. Then rejoin them after deleting the bad cell id. I don't remember the sequence but it is here if you do a search.

limit max bitrate to 6700 Kbit/s, it should do the trick

Divx has absolutely nothing to do with it.
