ok...i figured out my other problem and successfully encoded a kenshin episode but there are no subs! I added the files to the bitrate calculations and selected the .ifo file after pressing "save & encode" THe log file says nothing is wrong...so what could be the problem?

Have you run Vobsub? Subtitles are first run as a separate task, as described in Doom9's guides. Once Vobsub is run, you can "hard-code" subtitles during encoding, or use DirectVobsub to display through some avi players (WMP, BSPlayer, etc.). Putting the files into the bitrate/resolution section is for use with DirectVobsub. "Hard coding" is done through selecting the subtitles files in the "Save & Encode" window.

yes i can run vobsub...i also did select the .ifo file when i encoded to "burn" the subs onto the avi file. THe problem is, the subs don't show up. Now i'm left with a avi file with video and audio, and a folder containing the .ibx, .sub, and .ifo files. Is there a way i can still implant the subs into the avi file permanently?

What you described should work. Do you have your GKnot log file? It may show what was set up (or not set up).
