I have a DV source with a resolution of 720x576. I'd like to resize that in VirtualDub to decrease the filesize. On the preview screen, Precise Billinear looks the best, so I'll probably go with that. Eventually I'll join the AVIs then frameserve it to TMPGEnc.

If I go straight from the DV AVI, TMPGEnc resizes it while encoding, however, I need to resize it before encoding since I need the AVI files to be smaller due to lack of hard drive space.

If I'm encoding to SVCD (480x576 for PAL), should I resize to 480x576 in VirtualDub to keep maximum detail but minimum size before the MPEG encoding?

FitCD (can be downloaded from "http://mitglied.lycos.de/fitcd/"
suggest

1) cropping to 720 x 564 and resizing to 448 x 576

or

2) cropping to 720 x 532 and resizing to 448 x 544
