PowerDVD 4.0 and WinDVD 3 both play SVCD's just fine with XP. PowerDVD 3.0 does not play them.

I suspect there is some sort of computer problem if you have the correct versions.

I use both all the time on XP.

Can you play DVD's ok?

I'm trying a re-install. My computer came with windvd3.1 and it will play dvd's fine. It gives me a "invalid format" error when I try to open a svcd I made with dvd2svcd though. Power dvd xp 4.0 says it can't read the disc and that it might need cleaning. It also plays dvd's fine. I'm stuck:confused:

Hi mevbo,

I had these error messages when I was testing to burn the CUE files directly with Nero! - Sometimes PowerDVD told me about a "invalid format" and WinDVD played them and sometimes WinDVD didn't play them too.

If you used Nero to burn the CUEs directly then please have a look at this:

I had no troubles since I switched to this way.

Greetings,
Gerti

I finally got an answer!
The version that comes in the bundle with my new unit is a generic "Lite" version. It does not support svcd. I had to upgrade to the full version for $30 and it works fine now. It would be nice if they told you that upfront. Toshiba's so called technical support didn't even know this!

After installing Windows XP, and again WinDVD 4 the program won't play SVCD, it says File NR. 1 has invalid format. It did correct play in Millenium.
The svcd don't play automaticaly anymore, the program hangs or won't play, als when opening the mpeg file "AVSEQ01.MPG" from the MPEG2 directory, i got the same error. I have seen similar problems around on internet but yet no solutions found. The problem isn't by the mpg-file bacause before i burned the mpg file into a svcd the file played fine.
The problem also is with original SVCD i read about on internet from other users. I burnt the SVCD myself, but before hadn't problem with it in Windows ME.

Later i installed another older version WINDVD 4.5 platinum and it playedd correct. Maybe it has also something to do with the ASPI of XP that we maybe overwrote by this drivers available at www.dvdrhelp.com along with the installation of DVD2SVCD.
