TMPGEnc allergic to some AVI

Hi everyboby,

I've try to convert two divx (4.12) movie to MPG and for the first all was good but for the other one (encode with the same parameter) TMPGEnc refuse to convert it. I've receive a error message Runtime error ... (I don't remember well).

The only difference I've noticed beetwen the both AVI is the compression rate.

It's not a problem due to the audio stream, I've try also to convert video stream alone.

It's not the first time I've this problem, and I would like to know the reason. If you don't find any reason can you give the name of another soft to convert AVI (DIVX) to MPG1.

If you want Mpeg1 give the Panasonic Encoder 2.51 a try.
The quality is great, some even think it's the best for Mpeg1, because of it's special video deblocking filter. It also allows resizing of the avi.
But beware, it's also very picky on some avis, better demux audio first with virtualdub to wav. After encoding demux the mpg1 video and audio stream and remux both with bbmpeg, otherwise you may encounter stutter on playback.

you can allso try "TMPGenc 12a" it's a little less "picky" on the avi streams. don't know where you'll find it, but do a search, it's out there somewhere =).

But I still want to know why TMPGEnc make a difference beetwen 2 AVI divx4.12 ?

To the difference:
Maybe it's not the video, maybe it's the audio stream?
That's why i said: Demux audio to plain wav with VirtualDub first.

the avi probably contains corrupt frames...

as mentioned before on some threads you can fix those with vdubmpeg, nandub or newer virtual dub version

Uli: I've try with the video stream alone and I have the same result.

Anarco: The problem don't appear during the convertion process, it append before the launching of the process. And I can watch the AVI (divx) file without any problem with WMP8, MicroDVD.

:D I've find the cause of the problem not the reason but it's working now :D

In fact, the plugins AVI2(OpenDML) File Reader looks to the cause of the "allergy" :confused: . I've give a higher priority (1) to the plugins DirectShow Multimedia File Reader and now it's working with any AVI divx file.

If somebody know why the plugins AVI2(OpenDML) is "allergic" to some AVI divx file, all encoded in the same way.

yeah.. openDML is picky for me too. i usually do a frameserve from virtualdub (if virtualdub can handle the stream) generally directshow filter can handle things the best. when things get bad enough i extract audio and encode with besweet (if audio is the problem)... if video is problem then frame serve works the best for me

also.. corrupt avis usually do play fine on WMP.. but encoders need things a little more neat than wmp..
