have done 3 rips now (season 1 angel episodes). i am in australia, the dvd is PAL.

my pc specs are:
athlon xp 1800+
kr7a-raid
256mb ddr ram
40gb maxtor ata-133 hdd
pioneer a106sz slot dvd
lg 24x burner (have tried burning at 8x and 16x)

my dvd player is an hiteker ad600a (same as an apex ad-600a)

my settings are exactly the same as the doom9 dvd2svcd guide and i have 'upper field first' turned off.

now the problem is during some scenes, usually fast moving scenes, the picture gets pixelated/mosaiced.

any idea anyone about how i could stop this happening?

sorry if this has been asked before. i tried searching the forum but didnt really find a solution.

Have you tried playing the disc on you computer and are the results the same?

Have you tried playing the mpg files on your HD with a Software DVD player like WinDVD, don't use media player?

Is it like lines going through it or like macroblocks?

Try this if it is more like lines:
Try converting a chapter you know gives the player problems using the de-interlace option and burn it on CDRW disc to test. I think you could try smart deinterlace, but do a search on interlace and see what people recommend. I don't do PAL discs I just remember seeing this allot.

If doing the chapter with the de-interlace option doesn't work post your DVD2SVCD_log.txt file using cut and paste.

it is more like blocks but i tried the deinterlace option and it seems to have worked. i did a chapter and yes the 'blockyness' is nearly all gone.

and yeah it was happening even if i played it back on my pc using power dvd xp 4.0.

i am now in the process of ripping/encoding a whole episode and will compare when its done.

will post here again.

and thanks a lot.

I am glad this helped. I wasn't sure if it was as I have never done a PAL disc.
There is a way to see if the movie is interlaced before you start the encode. It isn't 100% accurate, but it's better then nothing. Only thing is I wish I new what the way was. It has been posted here and a search might find it. I think it's just loading the movie in DVD2AVI and checking it out in that. There is a plug-in floating around that lets you load the VOB files directly from the DVD, but I don't know where it is. I really should find it as I need it myself.
Wish I could be of more help then vague things to look out for.

Hi there,

perhaps this is what you were looking for, Mark?

http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17260

I just remembered DDogg's thread right now as you mentioned this plugin, this plugin is also a good addition to this thread - it also deals on how to detect a interlaced DVD for PAL:

Hope that helps,
