Guys I have owned a Pioneer A03 for quite some time, it has a hard time reading discs and often has bad burns on cheap media.

I just went out and bought a Panasonic LF-D311 because I was so fed up with the damn pioneer. Let me tell you, all the discs that i read on it that couldnt be read on the pioneer read PERFECT with no bad sectors. All the meritime media I have burned so far have come out PERFECT! No problems thus far, if you are having problems with the pioneer unit or are thinking of buying one, GET THIS UNIT INSTEAD JUST TRUST ME!

The pioneer is 2x only on pioneer media, so you dont lose much, but the panasonic cant burn on DVD-RW. Thats its only down fall. The price is only 300$ shipped to your door in 3 days, cant go wrong.

So if u have problems, just get this unit, saved me a SHXT LOAD!
Thnx

Do DVD-RAM disks play on DVD players?

I thought only DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW play on DVD players. That was the reason I bought the Pioneer A03, because I could burn DVD-RW disks and not have to use up a $3-4 DVD-R disk every time I needed to test something.

dvd-ram is very different from -RW and +RW, rather than just being a burning format that you can erase, DVD-RAM is a fully random access/write drive like a huge removable floppy disk (just a lot larger.

DVD-RAM discs are mostly in cartridges (the double sided media only comes in carts) which is one of the reasons why no standalone supports it, the other is that it is completely different storage on the disc compared to any other cd or dvd format.

i am not aware of any standalone that can read DVD-RAM (besides one or two DVD-VCR's that use DVD-RAM)

The panasonic burns DVD-R just not DVD-RW :( But i have gone through so many DVD-Rs in the pioneer. I love this drive because it lets me burn DVD-Rs without a problem, cheap DVD-Rs that is. They play in all my computers and my set top sony. I dont need DVD-RWs with this perfection hehe.

I haven't attempted to try the revered 'princo's' in my AO3, but I have burned 10 fully successful dvd-r burns on the njust as affordable Ideal DVD-r's in my AO3, and I've only had it for about 2 weeks now. They play great in my Apex and my buddys PS2, same goes for -RW...

I think i found the problem to my a03, and i switched the pio mode 4 and dma settings around till i got it right. Seems to burn fine now, but wont burn CDs... heh i just had to many problems with it im using my panasonic now just straight out and my hp cd writer for cds. This configuration solves all my problems... but if yer stuck with the pioneer a03, and you discs keep coming out bad CONSISTANTLY i would change your pio mode and dma settings in control panel (not only bios.) That got mine running dvd-r smooth....
