I decided to avoid GMC after reading about the squares it could cause on films. It seems like its pretty reliable though as alot of the guides recommend using it. How much success have you had with it?
I might give it a go, but I don't want to waste a 4 hour encode and find out its knackered... But saying that, I have been using q-pel regardless and have had no trouble so far.

P.S Does GMC offer any visual improvment or just decreased file sizes? I fit my DivX onto cd so any space that is saved through GMC would be wasted anyway.

I've just encoded a clip with GMC, and re-encoded it again without it. To be honest I can't notice much differance at all. I think i'll leave q-pel and gmc both off for now, to avoid any possible problems. I don't feel like watching every DivX I make to look for artifacts before I burn it.
