update to my other post...
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20063

After watching one of my DivX 5 movies today I thought that the white specs I was noticing was a result of using the q-pel option. I was planning on re-encoding them without it tonight.

I decided to watch one of my old DivX 4.12 rips just now and the same specs are appearing on these too! I thought maybe it was the DivX 5 decoder causing it so I reinstalled DivX 4.12 and had the same problem.

Any ideas whats causing it? Perhaps they've been there all along and i've never noticed... Can one of you check one of your films and see if you have the same artifacts? My friend does and his pc is entirely different to mine.
Any input appreciated

I get tiny white specks during playback. I encoded with DivX 5 Basic.

did you get them them before you installed DivX 5? I'm thinking it's something to do with the decoder...

Try using IDCT Algorithm 64-Bit Floating Point in DVD2AVI and encoding using GMC and Bidirectional encoding, but do NOT use Quartel Pixel unless you have a really fast CPU.
