OK sorry for the dumb question, as it seems this has been talked about before but I have conflicting info. vcdhelp.com says the size of dvd data has to be less than 4,608,000 KB which is 4,718,592,000 bytes, correct? Is this true then, that even though the media says its 4.7GB (really they mean 4,700,000,000 bytes) it can burn a tad more? I have a project that is just a hair under this and wonder if it would/should fit.

if you are using PrimoDVD, load in your project/files
when you press record, you will be warned that the item won't fit on DVD-R if it won't fit, it wont start to burn
with PrimoDVD, it will also indicate a "total size on Disc"
for a data DVD (including movie DVD), the absolute maximum for this figure is somewhere between 4488MB (which does burn) and 4500MB (which does not)
this amt. is just over 4.7 million kbytes
BTW for those of you that use the trim function in DVDMAestro to do some last minute reductions in size (eg trimming off the credits), I have noted the following
Size in Maestro______Size in PrimoDVD______number of movies
4.759GB______________4486MB________________1 movie
4.739GB______________4488MB________________2 movie
4.708GB______________4419MB________________1 movies
4.747GB______________4488MB________________2 movies
4488 in PrimoDVD definitely burns
so the DVDMAestro project must be less than about 4.747 as reported in DVDMAestro. Note that having 2 movies on 1 disc (at least in 2 separate set of vob's) seems to add about 0.01GB to eventual size
