View Full Version : No codecs will play back

Ok, this is a serious problem

None of my audio codecs will play back, but they all compress fine

my 2 usual audio choices are divx audio and mp3, and i usually unregister the mp3 filter in WMP to make it play through the ACM, works just fine that way

now, all of a sudden, neither will play back, when i try to play AVIs with either type of audio, i get a "unable to find appropriate decompressor" message

i've resinstalled everything except windows (WMP, all the codecs...)
i can only play back mp3 types now because i re-registered the mp3 filter

any ideas?

The same procedure as every year:

The DivX 3.11 installation contains a setup app for DivX audio, called "Run Me First !!" in the DivX start menu.

Sorry if you misunderstood, when i mean install the codec, i mean install them so that they show up in multimedia control panel, not just unpack them

they worked the way i install them (rightclick on the inf and pick install), i have tried your method as well, to no avail

thanks for the suggestion anyways

Sorry for being too fast - a similar issue was asked so often...

There is a special "codec" called something like "Microsoft PCM conversion" which usually needs to have the lowest priority. If it does not exist or has a different priority, ACM may not work correctly.

Does ACM conversion still work in wave editors?

(If no one else has more useful hints, I'm afraid you may have to reinstall...)
