I am burning ripped files from a DVD onto a DVD-R with a Pioneer DVDR/RW with Nero but it keeps on saying that the media is not accepted, is the dvd disc not compatible? Is it the software? Am I right in just striaght copying every file from the original DVd will work?

NO, copying the files will not work. Read the guides on DVD to DVD conversion. (http://www.doom9.org) (select 'The Guides', 'DVD and miniDVD' and the read about IfoEdit.
