Dumb question of the month !!
A quote from the dvd2svd guide : If you have a PAL title that's interlaced select a deinterlace mode from the dropdown list:
Can someone clarify interlacing ? I've been wondering this for a while. I have always left this at the default option of 'No deinterlacing'
Cheers

try encoding one chapter and if you get horizontal lines then you need to deinterlace your video.

A question or two if I may!
Does deinterlacing reduce the quality of the video?
Also, I have a PAL interlaced Anime DVD that encodes worse quality if I use no deinterlacing than if I de-interlace it with the 'VerticalReduceBy2 (PAL)' filter?
The only alterations I made were:
CCE: 5 pass VBR, Upper field first & Progressive frames unchecked
Frameserver: Bicubic Resize (Default values)
I then encoded a test chapter and played it in my DVD, the de-interlaced video came out far superior to the one which had no de-interlacing applied? Noticeably fastmotion scenes came out sharper when deinterlaced.
Is this normal or a result of something I don't understand?
