Metallic sound on MPEG files from DivX source

I have a problem when converting DivX movies to SVCD through Tmpgenc.

First of all I convert the audiotrack as WAV-file in VirtualDub. Then I encode the Divx avi-file as the video-source and the converted Wav-file as audio source in Tmpgenc to create the SVCD.

I don´t know why but on about 50% of all films I´ve encoded this way (about 15 totally) I get a metallic sound on the audio which is quite annoying. Even though the wav-file sounds OK when listening to it separately it comes out bad in the MPEG-file.

Does anyone know why this happens? And why only on a few movies and not all of them? I´ve had this problem on the DVDrip DivX of "Hearts in Atlantis" for example.

I´m desperate for suggestions how to fix this. Otherwise it works great. Thanks for your feedback.

Which bitrate did you use in TMPEnc?

Sometimes the sound needs to be resampled from 48000 to 44100. Use SSRC instead of TMPGEnc's internal routine (and I suggest you use twopass because I often get distorted sound without that).
