I am over budget by 200-500 megs (pending on what audio stream I decide to go with). I have stripped EVERYTHING I could, but the damn file stays around 4.9-5.2. I really don't want to ReMPEG2 the files just to squeeze it that amount, any suggestions on a faster route??
BTW, it is Full Metal Jacket that I am trying to backup to DVD5

try to remove a part of the end credits
for sure there is a better method than mine but i just want to help
- rip with dvddecryter (or your favourite ripper if you need ifo parsing)
- give the last vob file in dvd2avi
- try to find thanks to the progress bar where the end credits begins in the last vob file
- cut the end of this vob file with vobsplit
now give the ifo to ifoedit, don't change anything, the last vob file is just smaller
this method worked for me several times even in my standalone (pioneer 646A)

Maybe try re-encoding the .ac3 file with a lower bitrate? You could maybe save 200MB this way if it has been encoded at a really high bitrate. Cutting off the credits isn't likely to save you such a big amount of space. If you can't do anything with the audio, there's no choice but to re-MPEG2 your files.
