SomeOne please reply (Ripping movie)

Hi All,

This is the second site I have joined and hopefully people will reply here lol.

Can i just say that I have looked round the site and it looks pritty cool the way its been set out.

My Question,

There is a lot of talk about ripping and authoring the movie which I have read a lot about on loads of sites which is not really what I am looking for (Surely this degrades the quality of the DVD which in my view defeats the object of DVD)

I can rip a 6 or 7GB DVD with Smartripper down to just over 4GB with no problems at all. Then comes the hard part. How do I get these files to a DVD without converting them to mpg or another inferior format.

I have read some stuff about IFO edit, do I still have to re-calculate the VTS nd something else? Does this have to be done on all files in the Video_Ts dir?

Also how do I write this to a DVD so it will play on my home DVD player?

That's what IfoEdit is about.

It corrects all neede pointers and start sectors without the need to re-author the DVD, and it will play perfect in a settop player.

You've got so many questions, for which I've invested my private time and wrote guides on how to do all that stuff.

Just a quich question on the guids you have spend to much time making.

1. When I rip the dvd with smart ripper do I need to save all files through the backup tab or do I just rip the movies through the files tab. and select only the movies files I need?

2. Also do I have to open every single ifo file in turn as there are about 120 ifo files when i use the backup option.

3. In the guide you say to remove all the VOBs I don't need, do I still leave the ifo files and the BUP files there from the deleted VOB's.

4. Also you mention renaming the ifo's to BUP can you explane this is more detail for me plesae.

Sorry to be a pain but I have only a few days to decide wether to keep or return the drive. I can feel I am so so so close to writing my first DVD thanks to you. :)

Depends on what you want to do!

No need for that, if you're using the newest IfoEdit versions.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

My goal is to make a backup of a DVD movie with or without a menu I dont care as long as it fits on a DVDR and I can play it in my stand alone DVD player.

The reason I ask do I need all the files is because in the example I should press the DVDPlay button i get a error saying cant find a decoder or something, so I can't use the DVD Play funtion in ifoedit.

I normally just open the VOB's with Power DVD 4.0
