Card recommendation

I think there are a lot of TV/Video Card available on the market.

I really want to ask which one is good enough for $100-$200 ?

Is that ATI All in Wonder good choice ?
or there are other brands ?

My second question is which one is better for TV capturing ?
use TV card or Video-in from Video Card and capture from analog TV ?

It depends. What do you want? What is good quality for you? When converting a DVD, what is enough for you? Do you want to cobvert your VHS tapes too? Do you have the time and will to spend hours of testing for HQ captures? And so on.

IMO, all the answers you need are already here, just take the time and read a bit.

With little luck you will get it under 200$

Okay, I have a question regarding capture cards.

I am looking at getting a Leadtek A250 TD GeForce 4 Ti4400 card.

According to Leadtek, it captures at 720X480.



Anyone know of anyone using this card? experiences?

just keep in mind that if you get a MJPEG based card, you'll be losing some quality (even if it's a high-end one), so if you're a quality freak get a card without compression capabilities. They are also cheaper, but as RGB video is heavy you'll need a powerful computer to compress the video on-the-fly.

So what would be a good card that capture without compression at 720x480?

I presume if I want to get a good copy, I need to capture at this resolution right?

I burned a VCD of an mpg file captures at a lower resolution and it looks good on the computer, but looks like crap on the TV set.

Basically I want to capture TV shows I like, and then create VCD's/SVCD's that look good when I play them back.

Get a nvidia ViVO card. (asus, leadtek etc)
Those are the best.
I have an old tnt2 vivo card myself and i cap at uyvy 720x480 uncompressed / huffyuv without dropped frames. (System: athlon 1ghz , 256ddr udma 100 7200rpm hd.)

Certainly DON'T get an ati card. The driver support and capture performance is really poor.
I have an Ati radeon 7500 vivo card in a 2nd system (same specs as above) and i can't even capture without dropped frames at 720x480.
The highest i can go without dropped frames is 480x480.
I also think the Video-in on ATI cards is blurring the source/image too much.

I have also had a bt8x8 card, but it wouldn't want to work properly on both of my via systems.
That is, green stripes appeared in the image (no not interlacing) when there was any comp activity. (moving the mouse, hd reading/writing etc)
Probably the old via bug again.....

I have a system more than capable of handling the power requirements.

Athlon 1.73ghz.
1gb ram
4 x 80gb. 7200 rpm hard drives

The Leadtek I was looking did say VIVO, so I'll go ahead and get that one. I personally hate the ATI cards. I think they suck. I work as a 3D animator and I have seen no end of driver problems with ATI and would never touch one unless I was suffering from alzheimers and didn't know better.

personally i'd get a seperate capture card (leadtech winfast 2000 xp is very good for the price). then if you want to update your video card you don't need to worry about buying vivo all the time.
