Ok all you gurus out there.

Is there anyway to manually install the DIVX 5.0 (NON Pro) files.

The reason is when I rip a DVD I also include a menu on the CD (MPEG4CD) that has picture of cover, link to website and option to install the CODEC.

Now the DIVX 4.12 codec file 565k, the standard DIVX 5.0 as you know is 2.6 Mb. I want to rip out both versions of the Playa and install just the files required for playback.

Anyone know how to do this, I can grab the files but obviously they need to be registered for windows to use them. I don't know how to do this.

Any reason they have not released a CODEC only release without all the crap ?

As I am rapidly running out of hard drive space with movie rips sitting everywhere, any help would be much appreciated. :)

Regards
Griff

Doom9 has a codec-only version of DivX5 Pro that's about 1.34MB. Check the download section.

I have checked the download section and I only see the DivX 5 Basic bundle and the DivX 5 Pro GAIN bundle. Where is this codec-only installer you speak of?

Check the front page, direct link: http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Codecs/DivX5ProGainCodec.exe
This one still has ads though.

Does anyone know of a standard codec only install, it is purely for playback purposes, don't need the Pro version for that, cant say I want to install spyware on everyones machine either :)

Thanks all

For playback only, it should be enough to copy the divxdec.ax into the system directory and register it with "regsvr32.exe divxdec.ax".
