Hi!

Let's see....

When I play a movie like Hunt for Red October (PAL, Zone2), I play it without any subtitles, but the movie enables them when people talks in russian, which is GREAT.

However, how do I rip and reauthor such movie leaving such subtitles enabled "automatically"?

I mean, in a DVD there's a subtitles "track" which contain THE WHOLE MOVIE as subtitles, but how do i rip just that subtitles that appear when some1 talks in russian? ;)

Thanks!

Assuming you are using DVDMaestro: Import the Subtitles as you normally would then go through the movie till you reach a point that you want the subtitle to be displayed (when they speak russian) double click or right click and select "Edit Subtitle" select the option "Forced Display" (it's under the start and stop time). You have to do this for each subtitle you want displayed like this.

I assume then that between the movie and the Import Subtitles feature there is at least 1 more step to be made, right? ;)

Any way to import the FORCED set up of the original movie?

Reading Doom9's tutorial on how to import chapters from the original movie makes me think there might be a way for the subtitles too...

Ideas?

Thanks!

how many subtitle streams does vstrip or ifoedit show? are the forced always there in one language or do they change in accordance to the subtitle track you select?

Hi!

i think i know these RC2 Language subtitles. The point is that your dvd player has language settings which you can change in the dvdplayer menue. For example when i set my player to german language the menues of the discs are in german. So when i start the movie i will see these subtitles in german. But they are not forced!
Usually there is another subtitle stream which sets the player automatically on for example Subtitle 6 there are no subtitles during the movie, there are only in this dialogues. I have seen a bunch of discs which work like this.
Hope to help you

OK so I guess this means there are 2 subtitle tracks for the same language then? 1 with the entire movie subtitled and 1 with only the rusian thing subtitled, right?

Any tutorial or good thread about subtitling with MAestro? ;)

well.. how about just converting these two subtitle tracks, then changing the properties of the one that only comes up when the people speak Russian and set the whole stream (if possible) or each sub to forced display?

I've still have had no time to check the streams onto this DVD, but I do know it works like I mentioned.

PRoblem is I'm totally NEW to subtitling with Maestro, so any good tutorial should be a good start.

Once with this, I've rarely seen any movie with 2 subtitle tracks on the same language...

So I guess everything ends on the forced setting.... Isn't there any faster way than seeing the whole movie thru preview??

I just notice how "easy" is to import same chapter structure, so...

Ideas?

well.. if somebody figures out how chapter files look in maestro then the whole chaptering process becomes very easy.. but until then.. it's a pain. Can't you just create a chapter before the point you want to check? then you forward to that chapter in the player and preview your subs.

maestro subtitling is part of my maestro guide

Unrelated movie = same prob.

I had the same issue with SW episode I. What I discovered for that particular film though was that if I left the stream "other" intact, the forced subtitles stayed on. I was not using maestro, however, but simply using ifoedit, reencode the video, and burn with prassi. I do not have red october to check.

chapter files are now part of the maestro guide.

One q.. don't have any such disc here.. during the russian parts of that movie.. are these subs forced, meaning do you get the subs in english and if you have a subtitle track selected via the dvd menus.. do you get these subs, too, or is it either or? what happens if you change the default language of the disc.. do you still get these english subs during the russian parts?

You were right, there are 2 spanish subtitle tracks and then, aside from the other subtitle tracks, there are some subtitle tracks displaying as "unknown".

I wonder now which subtitle track should I extract and how.

Thanks!
